CONCEPT

As Levi Yitshak of Berdichev noted, “White spots around letters are mysterious letters, even higher than the revealed letters”. A city can be explored not only through its “letters” – buildings, monuments and holy places, but also through its “white spots” – waste-grounds, invisible structures, hidden landscapes and undeveloped areas. The story of a city can be described in a similar way - not what we know about Jerusalem, but what we do not know about her – unsolved historical and literary mysteries, unanswered questions, able to haunt scholars for decades, if not centuries.

In a series of workshops and thematic city walks, scholars of Jerusalem discuss the most pivotal unresolved questions and unsolved mysteries in their respective fields of study (history, archaeology, literature etc) and explore the “white spots” of Jerusalem’s urban texture.
